This 2 day workshop, presented by William Graham, for IDC Technologies, in the Canadian city of Toronto provided a practical, hands-on experience for the guys.
Graham has been in the electrical and communications field for over 30 years. He has certified more than 1500 people through his fiber optic training programs which he has conducted across Canada, the US and Carribean. Satisfied students have described him as both enthusiastic and passionate about the fiber optics industry.
In this round of 2 day workshops he presented the fundamentals of fiber optic systems and their individual components including fibers, cable construction, connectors, splices and optical sources and detectors.
The skills necessary to design, install and maintain fiber optic systems were then covered.
The workshop places significant emphasis on the practical techniques of component installation and system design. The attendees were involved with mechanical and fusion splicing and fitting the popular industrial fiber connectors.
A fiber optic link design software package is used and allowed the guys to practice actual link
design using various parameters. Finally, they were given the opportunity to practice using fiber Optic test equipment such as optical sources and power meters.
The delegates registered for the same workshop, in Edmonton next week, will need to roll up their sleeves!
